Shoutout to the cedar mulch I switched to 2 summers ago, my weeds dropped way down
I used to dump that cheap black dyed mulch on every bed around my place in Boise, and I would be out there pulling weeds every single weekend from May to August. After 3 summers of that nonsense I got sick of it, so 2 summers ago I switched to plain cedar mulch, the chunky kind, about 3 inches deep. The difference is not small. My weed pulling dropped from maybe 2 hours a weekend to about 20 minutes, and the beds hold water way better when it hits 95 out. The cedar also does not fade to gray in a month like the dyed stuff did. My neighbor Barb asked what I was doing different, and when I told her she went and got 6 bags the next day. I paid about $4.50 a bag at the local nursery instead of $2.99 for the cheap stuff, and it is worth every cent. Anyone else made the switch, or do you have something that works even better for keeping weeds down?
