Spent $80 on a motion sensor sprinkler to deal with rabbits

My vegetable patch was getting eaten every night, so I ordered one of those sprinklers that shoots water when it senses movement. Set it up near the fence line about three weeks ago. It works, but now my own dog sets it off constantly and the whole corner of the yard is a muddy mess. Has anyone found a better way to keep animals out without soaking everything?

Three weeks is long enough to see that setup isn't working for your yard. Did you try adjusting the sensor's height or angle so it only triggers for things rabbit-height and not dog-height? Mine had settings for that. Also, what about putting a physical barrier like chicken wire around just the veggie patch itself? The sprinkler seems like overkill if it's making a swamp.

Chicken wire's cheaper than a swamp, right?

My neighbor in Tucson had a similar rabbit problem with his prickly pear cactus. He ended up using a low wire fence about a foot high, bent outwards at the top. Said it looked ugly but the rabbits couldn't figure out how to get over that little lip.
