Used to think raised beds were a waste of space until I tried them
I always just planted straight in the ground but my back started killing me after weeding for 10 minutes. Switched to 2 foot tall raised beds last spring and now I can actually enjoy working out there without wanting to lie down after.

Exactly! I built mine about knee height and it CHANGED my life. My neighbor said I was being lazy but I think he just likes being miserable. The thing nobody told me is how much FASTER things grow in those beds. My tomatoes were ready a whole month earlier than his ground ones. I think the soil gets warmer quicker or something. And the weeds are basically nonexistent compared to the jungle I used to fight. Now I spend more time actually picking vegetables than weeding and that is a HUGE win in my book.

3 years ago my back was so bad I had to switch to a waist high setup just to keep gardening at all. But is it really that serious with the knee high stuff? I mean sure the soil warms up faster, that's just basic physics. But a whole month earlier for tomatoes seems like a stretch unless you're comparing a sunny raised bed to a shady patch of dirt. Your neighbor calling you lazy is dumb though, that guy needs a hobby.
