Visited a community garden in Austin and saw what everyone else missed

Last Saturday I stopped by the Eastside Community Garden in Austin, and while most folks were oohing and aahing over the fancy raised beds and drip irrigation, I noticed something else entirely. The compost bins were sitting half empty and full of weeds, right next to a pile of fallen branches that could have been turned into mulch weeks ago. Everyone talks about the pretty flowers and vegetable plots, but nobody seems to care about the basic soil care that makes those things possible. Am I the only one who thinks community gardens should focus more on composting and less on looking perfect for Instagram?

Kinda seems like you're getting hung up on one thing that wasn't perfect instead of seeing the bigger picture. Those raised beds and drip systems take time and money, and they're what actually draw people in before they start caring about dirt and compost.
