Hot take: The Room is a masterpiece of bad filmmaking or just a mess?
My buddy Jake said The Room is genius because every mistake is intentional. I watched it and just saw 90 minutes of bad acting and weird scenes. Who thinks it's smart satire versus pure accident?

Man, STOP. Your buddy Jake is WRONG. The Room is NOT genius on purpose. I literally watched it three times trying to see the "art" and it's just a train wreck. There's a scene where Tommy Wiseau throws a football in slow motion for NO REASON. That's not satire, that's someone who had no idea what they were doing. The whole movie feels like a guy who watched one YouTube video on filmmaking and then tried to make a feature. Satire has a point, this movie is just a beautiful accident of incompetence.

I gotta push back on calling it a "beautiful accident of incompetence." People get way too hung up on whether Tommy Wiseau meant it or not. Maybe it doesn't matter. The end result is a movie that makes you laugh, cringe, and quote it for years. That counts for something, even if it wasn't on purpose. I think we overanalyze stuff like this when really it's just a weird, bad movie that happened to strike a nerve. Not everything needs to be either high art or a total failure.
