I swore off black and white movies until my uncle paused one at a diner in Akron
For most of my life I skipped anything in black and white. I figured old equals boring and I wanted color, plain and simple. Then two winters ago my uncle and I grabbed breakfast at a diner off Route 8 in Akron and he pulled up a cheesy 1950s monster movie on his phone. I rolled my eyes. He said, "just watch the shadows, the shadows do all the acting." So we sat there for an hour and a half over cold coffee and I actually started to see it. The fake rubber monster looked dumb as hell but the lighting made it creepy in a way modern effects don't pull off for me. Now I keep a list of bad old sci-fi flicks to watch on purpose. Your mileage may vary on the older stuff, but has anyone found a bad black and white horror movie that's more fun than it has any right to be?
