My friend called 'The Room' boring and I almost lost it

We were at his place in Denver last month and he said it was just a bad drama with no fun to it. I had to explain the whole Tommy Wiseau cult thing and how you're supposed to yell at the screen. Has anyone else had to defend a classic bad movie like that?

You're right about needing the right crowd for it. I see this all the time with stuff like niche music or inside jokes. Some things just don't work unless everyone's on the same page, and trying to force that vibe is a lost cause. It's like your friend is speaking a different language. The Room is basically a group activity, not a solo movie night pick.

Wait, isn't that half the fun though?

Defending "The Room" is a real test of friendship. I had the same fight with my cousin who called it just a bad movie. You have to be in the right crowd that gets the joke, otherwise it falls totally flat. It's a specific kind of fun that not everyone is wired for.
