That friend who told me to stop fast-forwarding through the bad parts

I used to skip all the terrible CGI and cheesy dialogue in movies like The Room or Birdemic, thinking it’d save time. Then a buddy said, 'Why are you watching a bad movie if you’re cutting out the worst bits? That’s the whole point.' He was right, so now I force myself to sit through every dumb scene, even the ten minute driving montage with no sound. Last week I watched Troll 2 without skipping a single terrible line and actually laughed harder than ever. Has anyone else had someone call them out for missing the gold in these train wrecks? I’m wondering if I should go back and rewatch some old favorites without skipping.

Gotta agree with your buddy on that one. Sitting through the whole mess is what makes those movies so special.

Brought my friend Sarah to see The Lighthouse when it came out, right? She thought it was just gonna be a normal horror movie with jumpscares and stuff. Two hours later she's sitting there with this completely blank face while the credits roll and the seagull is just screaming. She turned to me and goes "I think I need to sit in my car for a while and process what I just watched." Like she literally sat in the parking lot for twenty minutes trying to figure out if she liked it or hated it. That's the kind of movie experience you just can't get from watching clips on your phone.
