The night I watched The Room with a full crowd at the Alamo Drafthouse and it was pure chaos

I finally got to see The Room in a theater last Friday at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin. The place was packed, like 150 people easy. Everyone was throwing plastic spoons at the screen during the spoon scenes, and people were yelling lines like "You're tearing me apart, Lisa!" at the exact right moments. I've watched it at home before, but the crowd energy made it 10 times funnier. There was a guy in a tuxedo shirt who kept jumping up and doing Tommy Wiseau's voices. Has anyone else had a better bad movie experience with a big crowd like that?

I've heard stories about Alamo Drafthouse crowds being extra, but someone actually jumping up during a screening sounds like a whole new level. The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin is pretty famous for letting the room get wild with stuff like that. I saw The Room at the New Beverly in LA a couple years ago, and the tuxedo shirt guy wasn't employed by the theater. He was just some dude who showed up in a full Tommy Wiseau costume, doing the whole "oh hai" bit from his seat. The crowd loved it, and the staff actually high-fived him during the spoon throwing. I think that kind of energy is what makes those showings special, because everyone knows it's a joke and they're all in on it together.
