Watched Battlefield Earth sober with a notepad and now I get why it's a masterpiece
I used to put Battlefield Earth on as background noise, but 3 weeks ago I sat through all 118 minutes with a notepad and wrote down every dumb line, and the movie finally clicked for me. The trick was treating it like a comedy instead of sci-fi, because once you laugh at the rat brain scene and Travolta's dreads it becomes the funniest thing ever made. Am I the only one who thinks bad movies need the full attention treatment instead of just playing in the background?
Yes! I did the same thing with The Room last year, full attention, pen and paper, and it was the best comedy I'd seen in ages. Bad movies are wasted as background noise, you gotta actually watch them to catch all the weird stuff going on.
Wait, you actually wrote notes while watching The Room? @finley_wells66 that is dedication and I love it. My advice if you keep doing this, keep a list of the lines that make zero sense so you can quote them later at parties. Also hit pause when something crazy happens, because half the fun is rewinding and going "did that really just happen." Bad movies reward you way more when you treat them like homework you actually want to do. The Room is a great place to start but wait until you get to Troll 2, it might top it.
