I finally stopped killing my sourdough starter after a dumb baking mistake

For like 6 months my starter kept going moldy or smelling like nail polish remover. I tried different flours, filtered water, even kept it in the fridge sometimes. Turns out I was just feeding it WAY too much water and not enough flour, my ratio was all off. I switched to a 1:2:2 feeding with a scale instead of cups and now it doubles in 4 hours flat. Has anyone else had a starter just refuse to cooperate until you changed something small like that?

wait hold on, isn't 1:2:2 the ratio for starter to flour to water? you said you were feeding too much water before so switching to a 1:1:1 or even 1:2:1 would've fixed it. glad it's working now though, that sourdough learning curve is no joke.

Yeah I mean congrats but it's bread, not brain surgery. Glad your science experiment finally worked though.
