I just hit 500 sourdough loaves and the number shocked me

I started my starter, Fred, about two years ago during that weird time when everyone was baking. I kept a little notebook, just a tally mark for each loaf. I was cleaning up my kitchen counter yesterday and flipped through it. Five hundred marks. That's a lot of flour, a lot of waiting, and a lot of crusty bread. It hit me that I've probably made more loaves than the local grocery store sells in a month. The milestone matters because it shows the shift from a pandemic hobby to a real, steady part of my life. My first ten loaves were bricks, but by number 300, I could tell the dough was ready just by the feel. Has anyone else tracked their bakes and been surprised by the total?

Man, that's awesome. But I gotta say, your grocery store must be tiny. Mine easily goes through a couple hundred loaves of just their store brand in a week, let alone a month with all the other brands. Still, your 500 is a huge deal. That's a ton of practice. I tried keeping a log but gave up after like 30. The fact you stuck with the tally for every single one is the real win here.

Honestly, giving up at 30 feels totally normal to me. I tried tracking my coffee runs last year and lost count after two weeks. Sticking with any count that long takes real focus.

Congrats on the 500, that's wild. I kept a list of my pizza attempts on my phone and hit 100 last month, which felt unreal. The muscle memory you build up after that many reps is no joke.
