Tried to make a 3-tier wedding cake last Saturday and the whole thing slid off the board after 20 minutes in the car.

I drove 45 minutes to the venue with the cake on a flat surface in the trunk, but I guess the heat from the road made the buttercream all soft and it just... collapsed in slow motion as I walked through the door, has anyone else had a cake fail like that right before delivery?

Last summer I spent four hours on a three-tier birthday cake for my niece and the whole thing decided to take a nap on the passenger seat during a left turn at a stoplight. It looked like a frosting landslide by the time I got to her party. I felt like I was walking into a funeral with a sad cake on a cookie sheet.

Oh man, that's rough. I had a similar disaster once, and I've found that using a few long wooden dowels driven all the way down through the tiers really helps keep everything locked together and stable for transport.
