Am I the only one who thinks a $40 cake turntable is a total waste of money?

I bought one last week thinking it would help me frost my layers evenly. It just spun too fast and flung buttercream all over my kitchen counter. I ended up going back to my old method of putting the cake plate on a wet towel to turn it. For the price, I expected it to actually help, not make a bigger mess. Has anyone found a cheap turntable that actually works well?

My cheap IKEA lazy Susan works better than any fancy turntable I've bought.

Calling it better is a stretch. Those lazy Susans wobble like crazy. The belt drives slip after a week. Plus the bearing quality is garbage compared to a proper turntable. You're getting distortion you don't even notice. Spend $50 on a used Audio Technica instead.

Right? Sometimes the simplest hack works best. I use a thrift store plate stand for my records now.
