My attempt at a buttercream rose cake turned into a muddy mess

I tried piping buttercream roses high and fast like the pros do on TikTok, but my icing was way too soft and it just collapsed into a globby puddle. Learned the hard way to chill my buttercream for at least 15 minutes before piping next time. Anyone else get fooled by fast videos?

Wait hold on, you piped straight onto a nail with a parchment square under it? That's genius. @sageallen I'm honestly shocked I never thought of that, all my droopy disasters could have been saved with a quick fridge trip.

Collapsed into a globby puddle" yep that was me too. I finally got decent roses when I started using American buttercream with way more powdered sugar than the recipe called for, almost stiff enough to hold a peak. Then I put the piping bag in the fridge for a full 20 minutes before I even started. I also pipe onto a flower nail covered with a little square of parchment paper, that way I can stick the whole thing in the fridge for 5 minutes if the petals start drooping.
