My sister said my cookie dough looked 'sad' before baking

I was making my usual chocolate chip cookies last week, and my sister was watching. She pointed at the bowl and said, 'That dough looks a little sad... it needs more salt.' I always just used the pinch the recipe called for. I added an extra quarter teaspoon of kosher salt like she said, and the whole batch tasted way better. The sweet and salty balance was perfect. Has anyone else had a simple tip like that totally fix a decent recipe?

It's wild how often the smallest adjustment unlocks a whole dish. Your salt story is a perfect example. I see this everywhere, like adding a tiny bit of vinegar to a soup that tastes flat or a squeeze of lemon at the end. Recipes give you a blueprint, but they can't account for your own taste or your specific ingredients. Those little tweaks are what turn following instructions into actually cooking.

Exactly! @schmidt.grace gets it. Taste as you go, that's the real trick.
