A customer in my chair yesterday said he learned to cut hair from a YouTube video called 'Barbering for Gamers'

He was dead serious, explaining how the tutorial used controller button prompts to teach clipper techniques. I had to stop for a second because I was laughing so hard, but honestly, it got him in the door and trying. What's the weirdest place you've ever heard someone say they picked up a barbering skill?

Honestly that's kind of brilliant, using a language he already understands. It makes me wonder about other weird training crossovers. Like, could someone learn color theory from a makeup artist doing fantasy character looks, or pick up scissor control from a chef's knife skills video? The most random place I heard was a guy who said he practiced his fades by watching those satisfying power washing restoration videos, said the slow reveal of the clean surface taught him about gradual blending.

My barber friend swears by watching pottery wheel videos for hand steadiness. He says the constant pressure and smooth motions translate directly to holding clippers. I tried learning fabric draping from those cake decorating competitions, the way they smooth fondant taught me about tension and flow.
