Customer asked for a skin fade, pointed at a picture of a flat top
Went to a new barbershop in Austin last week and watched the guy next to me spend 20 minutes trying to explain that a skin fade isn't the same as a buzz cut. Has anyone else had clients argue with you about what they want even when you show them a mirror?

I read a post from a barber in Chicago who said about 30% of their clients can't tell the difference between a taper and a fade. They started keeping a binder of pictures with names written under each style to avoid the confusion. One guy pointed at a picture of a military high and tight and got mad when his neck didn't look like that. People see a short haircut in a photo and think it's all the same thing.

One guy pointed at a picture of a military high and tight and got mad when his neck didn't look like that" is the most relatable thing I've heard all week. People see any short haircut and just assume it's the same thing, like a bowl cut and a pompadour are basically the same because they both use hair. I swear some of these guys would point at a picture of Jason Statham bald and then get upset their own head isn't shaped exactly like his. Maybe we should start putting mirrors next to the photo binder so they can see the difference between what they want and what they're working with.
