Finally figured out why my fades were always patchy on the neck
For 2 years I was using a 000 blade dry with no oil. Switched to a 0000 with a light spray of clipper oil before each head and the difference is night and day. Anyone else take forever to realize a simple prep step was killing their work?

Oh man, I feel your pain. I used to get that same patchy mess near the occipital bone and just assumed my clipper was dull or I was going too fast. Then a buddy told me to swap to a 0000 with just a tiny spray of oil and wipe the blade between heads. Fixed it overnight. Also, make sure you're not pressing too hard with the 0000 since it's skinnier and can dig in if you push down.

Adding to what @lane.angela said, a light touch with that 0000 blade makes all the difference, trust me.
