Found a better way to fade using a 3-stop method
Been struggling with getting clean fades on thick curly hair for a while. Tried the usual clipper-over-comb but kept getting lines. Started doing this thing where I drop the guard by 3 sizes each section instead of 1 or 2. Tried it on a customer named Marcus in Chicago last Thursday and the blend was way smoother. Anyone else do something similar or am I overcomplicating it?

Whoa, hold up. Dropping three sizes at once sounds like a recipe for a harsh line right there where the gap is biggest to me. In my experience you'd still get a visible jump, just a different spot.

Oh totally, I see what you mean. I once watched my buddy try to go from like a 10mm to a 6mm on his septum and yeah, the gap was super obvious and he ended up with this weird step that looked like a staircase in his ear. It took forever for the tissue to even out. @the_robin you're right that dropping three sizes at once is just asking for a harsh line, but I think it also depends on how thick the skin is in that spot. Like my helix piercings always handle jumps better because that cartilage is denser than my love lobe? I don't know, it's such a gamble and I hate seeing people end up with those puckered edges. If you can stretch slow and steady it's way less drama, even if it takes longer.
