Guy at the barber supply store said my scissors were too nice for home use
Was grabbing some new clipper oil last week and the owner noticed my shears. He said if I'm only cutting my kids' hair at home, I'm using pro-grade blades that'll dull in a year since I can't sharpen them myself. Idk, now I'm wondering if I should've just got the $40 kit instead, or is he trying to upsell me on their sharpening service? Anyone else bring their own gear to a supply shop and get that lecture?

Everything these days has a million tiers and someone ready to make you feel dumb for picking the middle one. It's like buying a nice chef's knife and getting told you should only own it if you're a line cook, meanwhile you just like how it feels. That barber's probably right about the sharpening but that doesn't mean you need to toss your gear, just enjoy the good quality while it lasts and cross that bridge later. People love to make you feel weird for having nice things just because they're not using them in a "professional" setting.
