A sudden move like that is a real test of your muscle memory. Your hands have to react before your brain even catches up. It makes you wonder if barbers should get some kind of hazard pay for the constant risk of nicks. The trust a client puts in you is huge when they hand over control of their look to a sharp blade near their ear. That split second decides if you're getting a tip or an angry phone call later.

My friend's barber told me about a guy who sneezed right as the straight razor was near his temple. The barber's hand jerked back on pure reflex, leaving this tiny, perfect line in the hair but not a scratch on the skin. The client never even noticed, but the barber said his heart was pounding for ten minutes. He called it a free master class in staying calm. That trust is so fragile, you know? One twitch and the whole thing changes.
