Hit 100 straight razor shaves without a nick... then got one today

Been tracking my straight razor work for a while now after a mentor told me to count every shave. I made it to 100 clean ones before I caught someone's jawline wrong this morning and drew a tiny bead of blood. Anyone else track their own numbers like this or am I just weird about it?

Oh man, 100 is such a solid run though! That's impressive regardless of the little hiccup today. I gotta ask though - were you counting just the actual shaves themselves, or did that number include any times you had to stop and reset your blade mid-shave for any reason?

That's a really good point because I've always wondered the same thing about how people count their streaks. I feel like resetting the blade mid-shave is practically a separate event in itself, especially with some of those finicky vintage razors. My run of 100 would definitely include the times I had to stop, rinse the blade, and start again because the lather was drying out or I missed a spot. Actually, I'd probably count any time I had to re-lather and go back over an area as a new shave, just to keep myself honest. It makes the number feel more real when you're strict about it, you know?

Never really thought about it that way until now. I used to just count the whole routine as one shave no matter what happened in between. Like if I had to rinse the blade off halfway through or re-lather a spot, I still called it one shave. But hearing you break it down like that makes me realize I was probably cheating myself a little. Couple months back I had a shave where I stopped three times to swap out a dull blade and re-lather my whole neck. That was really four separate attempts crammed into one sitting. You got me rethinking my whole count system now.
