I finally stopped rushing my fades after a kid at the shop said something that stuck with me
Last Tuesday a 19 year old kid named Marcus was waiting on his dad and watching me close out a fade on a walk-in. He said, 'man, you do the last part slower than the first part.' I had never thought about it that way but he was right. I've been cutting 11 years and I still catch myself trying to race the clock on the bottom half. Now I slow down on the last two passes and my lines come out cleaner. Any of you guys have a client or a kid point out something about your own technique like that?
A 19 year old noticing that? That would've messed with my head for a week. Not because he was wrong, but because he nailed something you'd been doing for 11 years without seeing it. I slow down at the end too, mostly because my wrist gets tired and I start getting sloppy, but I never thought about it as a real technique thing.
