Just learned the average barber chair costs over $2,000 new

I was looking at a new chair for my shop in Tacoma and the price tags shocked me... I found the stat in a trade magazine article from last month. It got me thinking about how much we invest just in the seat someone sits in. What's the oldest chair you guys are still using that's held up well?

That bit about the hydraulics sounding like a tired ghost got me good, @davis.linda. Reminds me of my barber back in the 90s, his chair would let out this groan every time he lowered a kid down. Sounded like it was complaining about the work. I guess the old ones are like old pickup trucks, they might be ugly and loud but they just keep running. Mine is from the late 80s, the vinyl is cracked and the footrest has a dent from some wrestler type who slammed his boots down after a bad fade. But I'm with you, I'd take that $2,000 number and spend it on good clippers instead of a new seat.

My chair is so old I'm pretty sure it remembers when haircuts were two bits. The leather has seen more heads than a museum, and the hydraulics sound like a tired ghost. Still works though, it's outlived three of my clippers. Guess they built things to last back whenever this thing was new.

Did the last guy who sat in it ask for a mullet before mullets were cool?
