Just realized a taper fade on a moving kid is a 3 appointment job, not 1
Had a mom bring in her 6 year old last month for a taper fade and I figured 20 minutes, easy money. Kid turned his head every time the clippers touched his neck, so after 25 minutes I had one side done and a very unhappy mom. I switched to cutting him while he sat on his mom's lap facing her, then had him hold a phone with a cartoon on it, and it still took me 3 visits over 6 weeks to get a clean fade that lasted. I always thought a kids cut was just a smaller adult cut, but the neck line and the squirminess are a whole different skill. Any of you charge extra for the wiggly ones or just build it into the price?
Been there and it sucks. Had a 5 year old who would flinch every time I got near his ears, took me almost 40 minutes just to do a simple buzz because he kept ducking like I was gonna hit him. The phone trick works maybe half the time, other kids just want to grab it and throw it across the shop. Moms lap is honestly the move, that and cutting when they're still sleepy in the morning. You're right that it's a totally different skill, the neck line alone on a moving target is brutal. Mad respect for sticking with it for 3 visits, most guys would've told her not to come back.
