My old trimmer gave out mid-fade yesterday

It was a Wahl Detailer I've had for about five years, and the motor just stopped with a quiet pop. I was right in the middle of a skin fade on a regular client. Had to grab my backup, a cheap cordless one, to finish up. The cut felt a bit off because the blade wasn't as sharp. Has anyone had good luck fixing these, or is it time to just get a new one? Looking for a solid replacement that can handle a busy day.

Imagine the look on your client's head, half a skin fade and your trimmer just goes pop like a sad party favor. That's the universe telling you it's time to upgrade, not to play electrician with a five-year-old motor that's probably a melted paperweight now. My backup clipper is so bad it makes people look like I cut their hair in the dark. Just bite the bullet and get a new one that won't ghost you mid-cut.

Honestly, my old cordless clippers did the same thing last month, just died with a little click during a lineup. Tbh I tried taking it apart but the little motor inside was totally fried, all black and smelled burnt. Ended up just tossing it.

Ever try to fix something like that? I used to think you could save any gadget if you tried hard enough. Seeing that burnt out motor changed my mind though. It's just a dead piece of plastic and wires at that point. Not worth the hassle when a new one costs like thirty bucks.
