Old guy in his 80s taught me more in one chair than barber school did in 9 months

He came in every 3 weeks for a flat top and a straight razor neck shave, and one Tuesday he told me, "Son, you're cutting hair like you're afraid of the scissors," then showed me how to hold my comb so I wasn't fighting my own hand, so has anyone else had a regular customer who basically became their mentor without ever charging for it?
