Overheard a client talking about his old barber's straight razor routine

I was doing a skin fade on a regular last Tuesday and he mentioned his grandpa's barber used to strop the razor 40 times before every shave. It got me thinking about how fast I move through tools now, and maybe I should slow down with my clipper maintenance too. Does anyone still do a set routine before every haircut to keep blades in good shape?
