PSA: I always thought a hot towel before a shave was just extra fluff, but a client who's a surgeon told me it's the single best way to soften a tough beard and prevent irritation.

He said he learned it from a barber in Chicago 15 years ago, and now I've been doing it for every straight razor service for the past month and the difference is honestly night and day... has anyone else found a simple step that totally changed a service for them?

Is that why some barbers keep a little hot towel steamer on their station? I read an article once that said the heat and moisture help open up the pores and relax the hair follicle, which makes the hair cut easier. It makes sense that it would help a lot with a straight razor.

Totally get that, a hot towel feels amazing before a shave.
