Spent $200 on a top-shelf clipper and it died after 3 months

Picked up a fancy cordless clipper from a trade show booth back in July. The guy swore it was built for heavy duty. Motor felt strong for the first few weeks, great fade blending. Then one Tuesday it just stopped mid haircut. Wouldn't charge, wouldn't power on. Took it apart and found a cheap plastic gear inside stripped to nothing. Now I'm back using my old Wahl that cost $80 and has lasted 4 years. Anyone else get burned by an overpriced clipper that couldn't handle real barber work?

Ever check the fine print on those trade show warranties? Most of them are basically "we'll replace it if you mail it back within 15 days." Real talk, @robinson.leo has a point about sticking with known brands, but your Wahl lasting 4 years isn't just about metal gears. It's also about the motor being simple and easy to replace parts on. That $200 clipper probably had a custom battery pack nobody stocks. Trade show guys bank on you not chasing them down for a warranty. They're gone by the next convention.

$200 compared to $80 and you're surprised the expensive one broke first lol. I've seen guys drop $600 on a clipper that lasted less time than a $40 wahl from walmart. The problem is you bought from a trade show booth not a real barber supply store. Those fly by night brands at conventions are usually just rebranded chinese stuff with a fancy paint job. Your old wahl is a workhorse because it's got a proper metal gear train inside not that molded plastic junk. Next time stick with oster or andis and buy from a place that actually backs their warranty.
