Spray bottle distance is what most new guys get wrong on a skin fade

Watched a guy at the shop in Phoenix soak the whole head before starting a fade and it made the hair clump and drag under the clippers. Keep the spray 6 to 8 inches back and do light passes, you want damp not wet. What distance are you all using on tighter fades?
