Stumbled on a stat about how often barbers sanitize their clippers and it kind of blew my mind

I was reading through some industry newsletters the other day, the one from the American Barbers Association, and they had a survey in there. It said something like only 40% of barbers actually sterilize their clippers between every single client. I always thought it was way higher, like close to 90%. Found out the rest just wipe them down with a rag or spray and call it good. That really surprised me, especially with all the new hygiene rules popping up. Has anyone else seen different numbers from their own shop or state board?

That figure sounds about right from what I've seen in smaller shops. Most barbers I know rely on a quick spray of Barbicide between clients because it's faster and doesn't dull the blades like a full autoclave cycle would. If the state board isn't checking every week, people tend to cut corners on stuff that doesn't visibly matter.

Haven't you ever had a client ask about your sanitation routine?
