Switched to a thinner clipper blade on a regular client and it backfired hard

I got a guy who comes in every 3 weeks for a medium fade, super particular. Last visit I tried a #1.5 instead of my usual #2 because his hair felt lighter, figured I'd save time. Ended up taking too much off the top and had to blend it way higher than normal, left his crown looking uneven. He didn't complain but I could tell he noticed. Anyone else ever try changing blades mid-fade on a regular and regret it?

Oh man, that's rough... I had a friend who did something similar. She's been cutting this one guy's hair for like two years, always the same blade, and one day she decides to try a lower guard on a whim... ended up taking a chunk out of his top layer and had to basically redo the whole cut. He never said anything but he stopped booking with her after that. It's like, once you mess with their trust over something they're super particular about, it's hard to get it back.
