That $60 clipper blade I sharpened myself instead of replacing
Had a set of Wahl magic clips that started pulling after about 8 months of heavy use. Spent $60 on a decent sharpening stone kit from a local barber supply shop here in Portland instead of dropping another $100 on new blades. First few tries were rough and I almost ruined a blade, but after watching a few videos and practicing on an old junker blade it actually cuts clean again. Anyone else ever try sharpening their own clipper blades or am I the only one cheap enough to do it?

Oh man, I gotta ask - how the heck did you not mess up the blade gap when you took it apart the first time? That's always what scared me off from trying this myself. I've got a set of Oster 76s that are getting dull and I've been going back and forth on whether to buy new blades or take a crack at sharpening them. Was there a specific technique you used to keep the tension right when you put it all back together?

That $60 stone kit sounds like a solid investment honestly. But I gotta push back on the blade gap thing, @ray_mitchell. I actually think people overthink that part. As long as you keep the screws tight but not cranked down with a gorilla grip, and you put them back in the same holes, the gap mostly stays put. The bigger issue is making sure you don't take off too much metal with the stone. I've seen guys go too aggressive and end up with a blade that's too thin or uneven, then it chatters and gets hot fast.
