That old barber who told me to stop using clipper oil on my blades was right

I used to oil my clippers after every single cut, like clockwork. About 8 months ago I noticed my Wahl Seniors were getting sluggish and starting to pull hair. A barber I met at a shop in Portland told me I was over-oiling and trapping all the hair dust inside. Switched to just a drop of Cool Care after each head and a full deep clean once a week. Anyone else run into issues from oiling too much?

Yeah man sounds like you were basically marinating those blades in oil. I guess there's a fine line between keeping things lubed and turning your clippers into a greasy dust trap.

72% of clipper failures I've seen came from people not oiling enough, not the other way around. That gunk is way better than dry metal grinding against metal.

Exactly this. I've gone months without cleaning mine and just kept adding fresh oil every few uses. Finally took them apart after a year and the inside was nasty but the blades were still sharp and cutting clean. Way better than letting them run dry and burning out the motor. That dry grinding is what kills them for sure.
