The day a young barber asked me why I still use a straight razor

Last month a kid fresh out of barber school watched me shave a neckline and asked why I don't just use a trimmer like everyone else. I told him my grandfather taught me with a straight razor back in 1987 and I can get a closer shave in half the time. Has anyone else had younger barbers question your old school methods?

Told him the trimmer fights back, this blade just whispers.

Trimmers are like that ex who just keeps popping back up with a new problem every time you try to fix them. At least with a blade you know what you're getting into, it's either sharp or it's not. Plus there's something satisfying about that clean slice versus the constant tangling and jerking of a trimmer line. Sounds like you found the right tool for the job, why fight with equipment that wants to fight back?

@elizabeth220 nailed it, that blade whisper is real. My granddad used to say the same thing, he handed me his old straight razor and told me trimmers are for people who don't respect the craft.
