The day I trimmed a kid's ear with my clippers

It was my second month cutting hair out of my garage in Phoenix. Kid was squirming like crazy, mom was on her phone. I got distracted for half a second and the clipper guard slipped. Felt the blade catch his earlobe. About 3 drops of blood. Mom looked up, saw it, and just said 'is he okay?' I froze up, apologized, offered to stop. She told me to keep going, said he needed a haircut anyway. Finished it up quick, gave him a sucker and a free cut next time. Has anyone else had a cut go wrong and the customer just shrugged it off?

Does it feel like people are just numb to minor disasters these days? I see it all the time at the grocery store when a kid wipes out in the aisle and the parent barely looks up from their phone. Maybe we're all so fried from the big problems that a little nick on the ear just doesn't register anymore.

Man, @quinn_king16, you're onto something. My buddy Tim's kid took a header off a park bench last week, and a woman just stepped over him to grab her shopping cart.

Maybe we're all so fried from the big problems" - yeah that definitely explains why the mom just wanted the haircut done so she could get back to ignoring her kid in peace.
