The old guy who called my fade a 'lawn mower job' back in 2017

I was still pretty new at the shop on Main Street in Athens, about 3 years in, and this older gentleman sits down and asks for a skin fade. I did my usual routine, took my time, thought it looked decent. When I spun him around to check it, he just stared in the mirror for a solid 15 seconds, then pointed at the back and said 'you blended that like you're trimming Bermuda grass.' I laughed but he wasn't joking. He stood up, pulled out a pocket mirror, and showed me two spots where the transition jumped. Then he sat back down and told me to watch his hand while he held a comb against his own head showing me how to feather the clipper over the curve. He didn't even charge me for that lesson. I still think about that every time I hit the back of a fade. Has anyone else had a client teach them something they still use today?

Love that - had a woman teach me how to hold my shears differently and it changed everything.

Oh wow, that's such a good reminder that real learning often comes from the most unexpected people. It's funny how in life the best teachers aren't always the ones with credentials but just someone willing to show you a better way.
