Took me 3 years to realize my clipper blades were dulling faster than they should

I was at a barber expo in Dallas last month and a guy from Wahl's booth asked how I clean my blades. I told him I just spray them with cooling oil after every few cuts and wipe them down. He looked at me funny and said I've been stripping the coating off by not using the right cleaner... I had no idea those alcohol sprays were eating away at the metal. Has anyone else accidentally been ruining their blades without knowing it?

That's wild, I had no idea alcohol sprays could mess up the coating like that. I've been using the same alcohol based spray for years on my clippers and never thought twice about it. You might have just saved me from ruining a set of blades down the road.

A buddy of mine ruined a brand new set of Wahl blades back in 2019 doing the same thing. He sprayed them down with alcohol after every use and within a few months the coating started flaking off and the blades got dull way faster than normal. He ended up having to buy a whole new set because the damage was already done.

Yeah alcohol absolutely wrecks the coating on blades.
