Tried a new way to hold my shears and my hand stopped hurting

I was doing a lot of skin fades last week and my thumb joint was killing me by Friday. On a whim, I tried holding my shears with my ring finger in the finger rest instead of my pinky, like I saw in a video. After three cuts, it felt way more stable and my thumb wasn't straining. I guess I've been holding them wrong for years without knowing it. Anyone else switch up their grip and have it fix a pain problem?

Ever notice how the "right" way to do something is just the way that stops hurting?

Ever think our bodies are just better at telling us what works than any training video? You get so used to doing things one way, you ignore the little aches until they're big problems. That ring finger trick probably works because it spreads the force out more evenly across your hand. Makes me wonder how many other "wrong" ways of holding tools are actually better for our joints long term. Good on you for listening to the pain and trying something new instead of just pushing through it.

What video was that? I might need to try that trick.
