Tried the clipper-over-comb method against my freehand shears and one came out way cleaner

I've been cutting hair for about 8 years now and mostly freehand with shears on top. Last week I had a client who wanted a really tight fade up top, so I grabbed my Andis clippers and a fine-tooth comb instead. The blend between the side and the crown was so much smoother with the clipper-over-comb. I think the comb gives me a more consistent guide, especially on cowlicks. Has anyone else noticed a big difference going from freehand to clipper-over-comb for certain haircuts?

... and here I was thinking I had my freehand game pretty locked down until I tried clipper-over-comb on a fellow realtor friend who has a double crown that's basically trying to escape in two different directions. My shears were leaving me with these little choppy spots I kept trying to fix, but the comb just ironed everything out without me having to overcorrect. I felt a little silly admitting to myself that a $15 fine-tooth comb could outdo my usual method, but that blend from the fade into the longer top was night and day smoother. I guess I'm a convert now, at least for those tricky parts where my thumb gets too jumpy with the shears. Just glad nobody filmed me fumbling around with the comb the first time.

Did you have any trouble finding the right angle to hold the comb on that double crown? @haydenj90 I always feel like I'm fighting the hair's natural direction in those spots. Asking because I've got a guy with a similar issue coming in next week.
