Wasted $80 on a cheap trimmer that died in two weeks
I picked up a no-name cordless trimmer off Amazon for $80 thinking I was saving money. The motor started smoking on the third fade I tried to do. I should have just stuck with my old Wahl instead of chasing a deal. Anyone else get burned by these off-brand clippers?

Oh man, that's rough! The motor literally smoking is a whole new level of bad. I think those cheap trimmers cut corners on the cooling vents and wiring, so they overheat super fast. You probably got one where the blade gap was off too, making the motor work way harder than it should. It's like they rush them out the door without testing if they can even run for ten minutes straight. At least with a Wahl you know the internals are solid, even if the trimmer is older. Lesson learned hard way, I guess!

Read somewhere that cheap electric motors just can't handle sustained load, @brooke475. The plastic housing traps heat instead of venting it out. That blade gap issue makes the whole thing work twice as hard.
