Found out basting with apple juice this summer changed everything for my ribs
I always thought apple juice was just for sweetening up sauces, not something you spritz on directly. Last weekend I was at a cookout in Nashville and a guy named Dave told me to try it on a rack of spare ribs every 30 minutes during the smoke. I gave it a shot with some cheap pork ribs from Kroger and the bark came out way stickier and tastier than my usual dry rub alone. Has anyone else swapped out their usual mop for straight apple juice and seen a big difference?

Apple juice is basically CHEATING for ribs and I'm here for it. Dave absolutely hooked you up with a pro move. The sugar in the juice hits the meat at the right temp and makes that bark TACKY without being a sticky mess. I switched from a vinegar spritz last year and my ribs went from okay to people asking for my recipe. Cheap Kroger ribs turn into something you'd pay $30 for at a restaurant.

The sticky bark thing is real, Dave knew what he was talking about. Apple juice caramelizes different than water-based mops and gives you that almost candied crust without being too sweet.
