The time my charcoal chimney exploded on my deck
I was out on my back patio last Saturday, trying to get a fire going for some ribs. Had my charcoal chimney loaded up with about 40 briquettes and a little paper underneath. I got impatient and dumped some lighter fluid right into the chimney before it was hot enough. It flared up crazy fast, and the whole thing tipped over onto my deck boards. Burned a black circle about 8 inches wide into the wood, and I spent the next hour scrubbing it with a wire brush. Has anyone else had a near disaster with a chimney tipping over?

Read somewhere that lighter fluid and chimneys just don't mix well, people have had decks catch fire way worse than yours. Sounds like you got lucky it was just a burn mark and not a full blaze. Probably better to just let the paper do its thing next time.
