Frozen ginger hack from my mom beats every fancy grater I tried

My mom told me years ago to just keep a whole ginger root in the freezer and scrape it with a spoon when needed. I ignored her for a long time and bought three different graters, the last one was $15 and still made a mess. Last week I finally tried her way and it took about 20 seconds to get perfect minced ginger with zero cleanup. Has anyone else gone back to a parent's old trick after wasting money on gadgets?

and honestly i dont even own a grater anymore because of this exact trick. the spoon thing works way better than people expect, especially if you peel the ginger first and let it thaw for like 30 seconds so the fibers arent rock hard. my mom also taught me to keep the peeled chunks in a ziplock so i can just grab one when cooking. i wasted like $40 on graters before i finally listened to her, and now i feel kinda dumb about it. plus the frozen ginger stays fresh for months so i never have that mushy sad piece sitting in the fridge drawer anymore.
