Spent 45 minutes trying to get a lid off a jar of pickles before I remembered I could just tap the rim on the counter
Tapped it twice on the granite and it opened instantly, felt like a total idiot for wrestling with it when a $0 trick was right there, anyone else have a kitchen hack they somehow missed for years?

Slam the lid on the counter edge next time, not the rim.

Right, because everyone keeps a counter edge handy when they're about to crack an egg. "Let me just clear this whole section of the kitchen real quick, honey, I'm going to slam this lid." It's a lid, not a baseball bat. If I'm already annoyed enough to slam it, I'm not thinking about the optimal physics of the counter vs. the rim. I'm just trying to get the yolk out without making a second mess. Next time I'll just use the tiny edge of the toaster, that'll work out great.
