Talked to my neighbor about how she cooks rice in a coffee maker and it blew my mind
She said she just uses the hot water from the coffee maker to dump over rice in a bowl and covers it for 12 minutes, and now I'm wondering if I should just throw out my rice cooker after 6 years of dealing with sticky cleanup?

The coffee maker thing works fine but it's basically just making rice with hot water and letting it steam, not really cooking it properly. Your rice cooker actually regulates temperature and timing to get the right texture. The coffee maker method can leave you with crunchy rice if the water isn't hot enough or if you don't cover it tight enough. I've tried it a few times and ended up with half-cooked grains more often than not. Rice cooker is better even with the cleanup hassle.

Ha, my rice cooker works perfectly fine unless I forget to put the rice in first.
