Unpopular opinion: my grandma's trick to keep lettuce from going slimy actually worked
My grandma in Toledo always told me to wrap lettuce in a dry paper towel and put it in a zip bag, and I figured it was just old person stuff. But I did it with a $2 head of romaine that usually turns to mush in 4 days, and it was still crisp on day 9. She also swore by putting a piece of bread in the brown sugar, which I have not tried yet. Anybody got other old school tricks like this that actually hold up?
