DAE see newbies put too much grease on pedal threads?

I was helping a guy at the shop yesterday and he slathered grease all over his pedal threads like it was butter on toast. That extra grease just squishes out and traps dirt, making them way harder to remove later. Why do people think more lube is always better for threaded parts?

Used to be a "more is better" guy myself, but after helping a buddy clean crusty, grease-trapped pedals off his cranks last month, I saw the light.
